Vorab der Kurzbericht von Carlo auf der EuroCup Seite:

Matthias Renker wins Act 4 Eurocup Walchensee.

After winning Act 2 in Ascona, Switzerland, he is now the hottest candidate to win the overall title.

Lake Walchensee regatta also reached a new entry record. With 38 participants out of 5 nations it´s a real international event.
We thank our sponsor FSE Robline for giving a high performance main sheet to every participant.
We also thank cosponsor Peter Frisch from MUSTO Germany for his support, enabling us to hand over nice goods to every sailor at the price giving ceremony.

The Eurocup Walchensee ended on Sunday with no more races due to the unusual weather conditions. The hottest day of the summer caused a night too warm preventing the mountains from cooling down and therefore disturbing the usual thermal system. With an unsteady 2-15 kts breeze from the east the fleet left the harbour at 10:30h. The expected 90 degree shift to the north did not happen. So the race officer postponed until 14:00h and then cancelled all races. So the overall result from Saturday evening was also the final result.

Friday saw 4 races in a nice 10-15 kts breeze from the usual north direction. Close racing between the first four boats saw Stefano Rizzi leading the result list. His friend Marco Lanulfi, who showed an impressive performance, could have taken the lead if not having an OCS in the 4th race.
Saturday was started in the upcoming thermal breeze. Unluckily there where a few holes near the windward mark, which may have cost Stefano Rizzi the overall win. Matthias Renker managed to fly around all the holes and finished first and got the overall lead.
Race 7 started in a 15-18 kts breeze, but has to be abandoned due to a upcoming thunderstorm. Luckily there where only lightnings and little gusts and all the sailors reached the club without any incident.

What could have happened showed a thunderstorm on Sunday evening after most of the competitors had left the event. Within 5 minutes the weather turned from sunny to an impressing thunderstorm with 50 kts of wind and flying water. Watch the video which one of the sailors has taken with her mobile phone. Hope now everybody understands the decision of the race officer in race 7 on Saturday.
